Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, in a debate on local health services today criticised the Government for presiding over an unaccountable and over centralised health service.
Greg also criticised the Government's failure to adequately support community hospitals like Wharfedale Hospital and asked why not even half of the £750 million the Government had committed to improving community hospitals in 2006 had been spent.
Greg commented:
"The Government talks about localism, but the reality is we have the most over centralised health service in the world.
What should be a people's health service is run by unaccountable managers who make decisions according to Whitehall directives, not local preferences.
We need real accountability to give the NHS back to the local communities it serves."
