When Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, heard that the Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis was visiting Leeds he took the opportunity to ask "Did he bring our carriages with him?"
Greg was reacting to reports that the Department of Transport was planning to reduce the number of new carriages introduced on trains into the city, despite ever increasing passenger numbers.
Commenting Greg said:
"I hope that this visit highlights to the Secretary of State how badly his penny pinching has affected the city.
Time and time again this Government has refused to invest in an appropriate public transport system for this city, Lord Adonis has shown a bit of a brass neck in visiting the city all things considered.
I hope that now he has seen the desperate need for better public transport he will go home and put his hands in his pockets, starting by adding the proper number of carriages to our trains."
