Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West used an opportunity during the final debate before the summer recess to raise his concerns about the referring out of patients to independent sector treatment centres.
Greg commented:
"There is currently not enough transparency when it comes to independent sector treatment centres.
Patients and the public at large are being kept in the dark when it comes to the provision for emergency care at these centres as well as the number of procedures that are taking place in them.
We have no idea how well equipped they are to handle it if something goes wrong because neither the Government nor the Primary Care Trusts which enter into contracts with them have been prepared to tell us.
I have asked several times for a debate on this issue, because at the moment the Government are allowing PCT's to play fast and loos with the NHS' guiding principles."
