Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and member of the Commons Work and Pensions Select Committee has joined with other members of the committee in criticising the Government's record on Pensioner Poverty.
A report published today by the committee has recognised efforts by the Government to lift pensioners out of poverty since 1997 but has also insisted that the current situation, with two million pensioners estimated to be living in poverty is unacceptable.
Commenting Greg said:
"It is an absolute disgrace that there are 2 million pensioners in poverty. Pensioners deserve better.
The current system, with three different types of benefits available, is far too complicated, meaning many pensioners don't get the money they deserve.
There should be a one stop shop to deal with all pension benefits, rather than the tortuous system pensioners are burdened with."
