HOSPITAL PARKING CHARGES A LET DOWN FOR DOCTORS NURSES AND LONG-TERM PAITENTS - MULHOLLAND

Following the revelation uncovered from a Freedom of Information Request that hospitals across Britain have made approximately £110 million in car parking charges, Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and shadow Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson commented:

"This is a staggering amount of money for the NHS to be making from car parking charges. Three hospitals have made over £2million

"Some hospitals are still forcing these charges on people with long term illnesses who have no choice but to travel to the hospital by car and stay for prolonged periods.

"I am all for initiatives for hospitals to cover their costs but car park charges clearly need to be better regulated.

"We have known that this was an issue for quite some time and these figures confirm the scale of the problem.

"Obviously Ministers are doing nothing to protect the chronically ill and hard working doctors and nurses who are the ones who are in some cases being hurt most by these charges."
