Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West has joined the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in declaring his support for keeping the Tetley's Brewery in Leeds.
Greg has been an opponent of the decision to close the brewery since it was first announced by Carlsberg UK and has led efforts to raise this issue in Parliament as well as signing the petition against the closure.
Greg is appearing in a news conference at 6 pm on the 13th August at the Grove Inn, Back Row, Holbeck, Leeds, LS11 5PL, which will be covered by ITV's Calendar News.
Commenting Greg said:
"Tetley's is a Leeds beer. It has been brewed in Leeds for over 186 years, by Leeds workers using Leeds water. It is unthinkable that it could be brewed anywhere else.
The people of Leeds will not have the wool pulled over their eyes. Carlsberg UK are killing an iconic Leeds brand with a proud heritage for no other reason than to make money.
The brewery is a Leeds landmark and this closure threatens to put 170 hardworking Leeds citizens out of work
I will lead the fight to petition to save this success Leeds brewery. It is not good enough for it to be kept in Yorkshire: we need to keep Tetley's at the heart of Leeds where it belongs."
