Information gained by Greg Mulholland the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Older People has revealed that a staggering 1260 experienced civil servants will have to retire from central government posts by 2011.
Greg has been a supporter of Age Concern & Help the Aged's campaign to abolish the mandatory retirement age which has led to many people of the age of 65 being forced to retire, in many cases against their wishes.
Commenting, Greg said:
"There is a wealth of experience which is going to be lost over the next two years in central government because Gordon Brown and Yvette Cooper refuse to revisit the issue of the mandatory retirement age.
"There is no reason whatsoever that a 65 year old who wants to keep working can be forced in to retirement simply because of their age.
"These figures were taken from central departments like the MOD and Business Innovation and skills. It is clear that thanks to the mandatory retirement age vast amounts of experience are jettisoned by these departments each year."
