Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West has reacted to the establishment of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority which is now underway.
The IPSA will set and administer an MPs' allowances scheme, administer MPs' salaries and draw up a code of conduct which MP's will have to adhere to.
Commenting, Greg said:
"I hope that the establishment of the ISPA will herald a new era in terms of transparency surrounding MP's allowances.
What we need is complete reform of the system, the public will, quite rightly, not forgive us if this new authority only nibbles around the edges of the problem.
What is needed is a strict and tightly controlled budget that MPs from outside London who need accommodation in London can spend on this and this only. Anything else will lead to mistrust and give the impression that MPs are on the make."
