Mulholland welcomes move away from premium numbers

September 15, 2009 9:26 PM

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West and Liberal Democrat shadow spokesperson for health today welcomed news that the Department for Health is going to discontinue the practice of using 084 numbers for call to GP's and NHS services.

Greg had previously written to the Department for Health complaining about the charges people were having to endure by calling these numbers.

Greg later commented:

"I am glad that this practice finally appears to have been abolished it is ridiculous that people were having to pay so much just for calling their GP.

"People shouldn't have to pay that much, calling the doctor or an NHS service can be quite distressing enough for many people.

"Now that the Department for Health has stopped cashing in on these telephone services hopefully people will notice a marked improvement in how much they are being charged to make these calls."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
