Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, has tabled a parliamentary Early Day Motion criticising the effect of blockades on ports on the haulage industry.
Greg has called on the government to press EU member states to help prevent blockages by quickly resolving industrial disputes.
Commenting Greg said:
"The haulage industry is vital to the health of the UK's economy, and blockades are cutting crucial arteries of trade. The increase in reports of blockages is deeply disturbing, and cannot continue.
"I have tabled a parliamentary motion to call on the government to press EU member states such as France to prevent blockages on ports. The UK must work with member states to enforce EU regulations.
"Right now we have one rule for the UK, and another rule for everyone else. This is deeply unfair, and the effects are felt most keenly by the haulage industry. In the current economic downturn the government must strive to give our lorry drivers a fair deal."
