Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West has welcomed the policy motion tabled by Liberal Democrat shadow Secretary of State for Transport and carried by popular vote at the party's summer conference.
The motion called for the Government to abandon its failed rail franchise system and replace it with one that puts passengers first.
Commenting Greg said:
"Commuters in Britain have had to put up with ever increasing prices as the Government seeks to make passengers bear the cost of its franchise system.
"The Government's failing franchise system demands high profits not passenger satisfaction and has already led to two train companies struggling to afford the East Coast franchise.
"We must finally develop a system on the east Coast that puts the passengers first and draw a line under the Government's franchise disaster."
