Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West and Chair of the All Party Save the Pub Group has tabled a parliamentary Early Day Motion calling for the Tetleys brewery to remain in Leeds.
Greg has joined with the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to call on the brewery, Carlsberg Tetley, to keep the historic Leeds brewery at the heart of the city.
Commenting Greg said:
Tetley's is an iconic Leeds brand, which has been brewed in Leeds for almost two centuries. The decision of Calsberg Tetley threatens to deprive Leeds of a key source of employment which is vital to the well-being of the local economy.
"Any beer claiming to be a Leeds beer must be made in Leeds, using Leeds water and a Leeds workforce. I am horrified that an industry so close to the centre of Leeds should be threatened with closure, putting 170 jobs at risk.
"I have tabled a parliamentary motion which brings into focus the concerted drive to force the brewery to reverse its decision and keep Tetleys in Leeds where it belongs."
