Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West and leading campaigner on the issue of MPs expenses has welcomed today's publication of the Kelly Report.
Greg has been one of the strongest voices in Parliament advocating change to the previous system and for holding those MPs who deliberately misused their expenses for personal gain properly to account.
Greg Commented:
"I am pleased that the Kelly report has now been published and I welcome proposed changes such as an end to the current system of financing mortgage repayments and preventing married couples from claiming two separate amounts of expenses.
"I encourage all Members of the House to now unite in implementing the changes recommended in the report, making them law as quickly as possible, it is time we all got on with it.
"I welcome the fact that the report suggested tax payer owned accommodation for MPs which would prevent members from enriching themselves this way.
"I hope that following the publication of the Kelly report we can all work together in rebuilding public confidence in politics, a confidence which had quite rightly been rocked by the expenses scandal.
"The Government now has an opportunity to really restore public confidence in politics, by sacking those MPs who have been found to have deliberately made false claims and deceived the public for their own personal benefit."
