Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Health today brought the controversy surrounding the Eccleshill Treatment Centre in Bradford to the attention of the House of Commons.
Questioning the Speaker of the House Greg brought attention to the recently uncovered report which casts doubt on the safety of the centre following the death of Greg's constituent Dr John Hubley.
In his response the Speaker praised Greg's constant effort in trying to raise this issue describing him as an assiduous Member of Parliament.
Commenting Greg said:
"This report has blown the whole Eccleshill issue wide open and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to raise this issue in front of the House.
"According to the report an inspection carried out in January of this year found real areas of concern still existed in the centre's safety procedures, up to two years after Dr Hubley's tragic death.
"I have demanded that the Secretary of State for Health come before Parliament and make a statement assuring the people of Leeds and Bradford that Eccleshill is now safe, this would be an assurance that thus far nobody has been able to give."
