Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West alongside Cllr Ryk Downes and Martin Rivett of Leeds Metropolitan University has visited the three charities which the three raised money for during their Carnegie 126 Mile Challenge.
The challenge which involved the Belfast Marathon followed within less than a month by the Wessex 100 mile walk raised over £5000 pounds for the Wharfedale Hospital Special Equipment Fund, Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley and Holt Park Charity Kidz in Kampz.
The challenge was sponsored by Jet 2, Up and Running, Jaguar, Bulldog Sports and Leeds Met who provided a fitness regime for the challengers.
Commented, Greg said:
"Both the marathon and the 100 mile walk presented us with huge physical and mental challenges and there were times when I was seriously concerned about whether I would be able to make it. These cheque presentations have made it all worth while though, it was a great feeling to be able to hand over the cash knowing our hard work would be helping these charities."
Cllr Downes added:
"I would also like to thank all those who gave us support including our sponsors and especially our families who put up with us being absent for such long periods during the training regime."
Martin Rivett added:
"All three of these charities are exceptionally worthy causes and I would encourage any one in the community to get involved in their fund raising activities."
