In the wake of former Prime Minister Tony Blair's recent television interview with Fern Britten, in which he implied that he would have invaded Iraq even had the intelligence suggested there were no weapons of mass destruction, Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West has called for Mr Blair to be brought to justice.
Greg has been leading efforts in Parliament to have a full, thorough and open inquiry into the events that led to the war and where there was wrong doing for guilty parties to be held to account he has recently signed Dai Davies EDM calling for just such action.
Greg has now seconded a motion in parliament which highlights the change in position former PM Mr Blair has taken since the invasion when he clearly stated that the only reason for invading Iraq was his firm belief that Saddam Hussein had WMD.
Commenting, Greg said:
"I was one of the hundreds of thousands of people who marched on London in opposition of the war, only to be ignored by a Prime Minister who insisted there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
"In his recent interview Tony Blair clearly said he would have invaded Iraq even if there was strong evidence to suggest that Sadam did not have WMD.
"This leaves a bitter taste for all those who campaigned against the war, it is evidence that the Prime Minister was willing to mislead us.
"Tony Blair must be brought before the courts to explain himself and for the truth behind the reasons for this unnecessary and illegal war to be uncovered".
