Speaking today during Health Questions, local MP Greg Mulholland grilled the Minister of State for Health Services, The Rt Hon Mike O'Brien, on why the contract for Eccleshill Independent Sector Treatment Centre had been renewed for five months.
The company currently running the contract has been granted a five month extension by the Department of Health.
Commenting Greg said:
"The decision to award a contract to run a centre such as this is usually taken by the local Primary Care Trust, so why has the Department of Health taken this decision out of the hands of Leeds and Bradford PCT?
"This is the latest chapter in the worrying history of this centre whereby local people have been kept out of the loop over what is going on behind the scenes over the centre's future.
"It is hugely important that local people who are affected by services being transferred from local NHS hospitals like the excellent Wharfedale Hospital have a say over the future of Eccleshill.
