Otley's MP, Greg Mulholland has written to Westward Care and Chartford Homes to demand answers as to why the Summercross Pub has laid dormant for so long after planning permission for a care home was granted last year.
Mr. Mulholland has written previously to both Chartford Homes and Westward Care insisting that they declare their intentions for the Summercross site. The site has been inactive sine the pub was shut in October 2007 despite the protests of many local residents.
Commenting on the current status of the Summercross site, Mr Mulholland said:
"The local residents of Otley deserve to know the fate of the Summercross pub. Once a thriving hub within the community, the derelict building has now become an eyesore.
"I have written to Westward Care to find out what their future intentions are for the site. The Summercross pub was closed against the wishes of local residents. With previous interest from two pub companies, I believe that the Summercross could be re-opened as a viable pub once again. .
"Hopefully Westward Care will take this opportunity to let local people know, once and for all, if we will ever see the welcome return of one of Otley's best loved pubs."
