Greg being presented award by Camra Chairman Colin Valentine
Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group was yesterday presented with a special award from the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) at the Grove Inn in Leeds.
The CAMRA "Parliamentary Campaigner of the Year" award was presented to Greg in recognition of all the hard work he has done on behalf of Britain's community pubs, real ale and pub customers.
CAMRA Chief Executive Mike Benner commented:
"This well deserved award is a tribute to Greg Mulholland MP's outstanding campaigning efforts both in Leeds and nationally. Greg is a superb champion and ambassador for beer and pubs and this award recognises his huge efforts over the past year.
"Greg has seen first hand the weakness of planning laws to protect pubs in his fight to save the Summercross pub in Otley from developers and is championing calls to stop people being able to demolishing pubs or turn them into other types of business without planning permission.
"In Parliament, Greg has been instrumental in moving the issue of pubs up the political agenda, notably through forming the new All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, campaigning for reform of the beer tie and arguing for a fair deal on beer tax."
Commenting Greg said:
"I'm really proud to have received this award, I am committed to leading the fight for the Great British pub in parliament and to campaign for community pubs and real ale and I have been pushing problems facing pubs up the political agenda.
"As an MP I am in a privileged position to raise issues like this and have my voice heard. I am delighted that CAMRA, who are champions for real and pub goers, have recognised my efforts and I look forward to continuing to work with them".
