Leeds based keyring company, Keyring Kings have launched Boycott Carlsberg keyrings to show their support for the 'Boycott Carlsberg! Keep Tetley's in Leeds' Campaign.
The keyrings are bottle openers, so the message to people in Leeds is remember when you are cracking open a bottle of beer, to make sure it isn't Carlsberg!
The Boycott Carlsberg campaign, launched by Greg Mulholland MP and members of Leeds CAMRA, and supported by LoveinLeeds.co.uk, is protesting at Carlsberg UK's decision to close the Tetley's Leeds Brewery and move production of the famous Leeds cask ale to the Midlands.
KeyringKings.co.uk was started in 2009, and was founded by 2 Leeds graduates Gareth and Russell. Specialising in fun and unique keyrings, the business has grown from selling on eBay to its own dedicated website. The keyrings can be ordered online at http://www.keyringkings.co.uk/boycott-carlsberg.html and cost £4.
Keyrings have at the same time launched keyrings in support of the Leeds Brewery (brewers of Leeds Best and Leeds Pale, est. 2007) saying 'Brewed in Leeds, Opened in Leeds' and 'At Least I know this one is brewed in Yorkshire!'.
Keyring Kings Co-founder Gareth commented:
"I was disgusted to hear of Carlsberg's decision to abandon over180 years of tradition, and wanted to show our support for the campaign. What better way than a reminder to boycott Carlsberg every time you open a bottle of beer?"
Co-founder Russell added:
"My concern is that here we have yet again a large corporation that seem to be more concerned with money, and seem to have a disregard for Tetley's heritage as a famous Leeds ale."
Commenting, Greg Mulholland MP said:
"I am delighted that a Keyring Kings, a Leeds company, have shown their support for the Boycott Carlsberg! Campaign in this powerful way and I hope people in Leeds will show their support by ordering a keyring!
"Despite Carlsberg's attempts to stifle protest at their decision to end 188 years of brewing history, they need to accept that people in Leeds are very angry at what many rightly see as a betrayal of the city and Tetley's as a brand".
