Popular Leeds website, lovinleeds.com have today launched the Boycott Carlsberg petition, protesting at Carlsberg's decision to close of the Tetley's Leeds brewery and have all Tetley's ales brewed outside of Leeds by other companies.
The Boycott Carlsberg campaign was started by Greg Mulholland MP, CAMRA's Parliamentary Campaigner of the Year. It now has the support of many Leeds residents, beer lovers and Leeds city councillors all angry at Carlsberg's betrayal of Leeds as a city and Tetley's as a brand.
Commenting Stuart Long, author of LovinLeeds.com said:
"The whole image of Tetley's is that it is a Leeds ale. To have it brewed elsewhere would be destroying all that heritage which is essential to Tetley's.
"Keep Tetley's in Leeds where it belongs. Moving it elsewhere is sacrilege!"
Greg Mulholland MP, MP for Leeds North West added:
"The campaign to boycott Carlsberg in protest against the proposed closure of the Tetley's brewery continues to gather momentum and I am delighted that lovinleeds.com have launched this petition.
"I would encourage everyone who is angry about Carlsberg's decision to visit LovinLeeds.com and sign the petition. We must send a message to the bosses at Carlsberg, you are betraying our iconic beer and we are not going to take this decision lying down".
