Greg Mulholland MP has been leading the campaign in Parliament to offer greater protection for students sharing accommodation under the law.
The previous tenancy deposit protection threshold of £25,000 was insufficient to protect large numbers of students living in the same house. Unscrupulous landlords would convince students to sign joint tenancy agreements, rendering them unprotected by the deposit protection scheme.
Greg has tabled a motion in Parliament, welcoming the Government's announcement which recommended the threshold be increased to £100,000.
Commenting Greg said:
"This decision is long overdue, for too long dodgy landlords have gotten away with exploiting students.
"I have tabled a motion in Parliament celebrating the Government's announcement but also to keep the pressure on for them to make these changes real.
"The new threshold, when it is introduced, will be another nail in the coffin of these cowboy landlords who have gotten away with too much for too long.
