Responding to the announcement by the Chief Secretary of the Treasury, Danny Alexander, that funding had been cut for the Holt Park well being centre local MP Greg Mulholland immediately wrote to the Chief Secretary asking him to reconsider.
The centre was due to replace the existing Holt park leisure centre and provide the community with a new swimming pool and learner pool as well as meeting areas a cafeé and activity and community rooms.
Commenting Greg Said:
"All sensible people are aware of the need for cuts in order to balance the country's budget deficit.
"However, I honestly believe that cutting the Holt Park Well Being Centre will be detrimental to the redevelopment of Holt Park and the surrounding area.
"The development, which has been postponed rather than cancelled outright, promises to bring more people into the area and to improve the aesthetics and infrastructure of the current Holt Park centre.
"For these reasons I have suggested that the Chief Secretary seriously consider reallocating funds for the development at the earliest opportunity."
