To mark the beginning of Otley Walking Festival 2010, Greg Mulholland MP walked through the night on Friday to complete a reverse Six Dales Trail.

Starting in Middleham, Mr. Mulholland arrived in Otley just before 9 am on Saturday morning, in time to wave off Janet Street Porter and other participants at the official commencement of the festival.

Commenting Greg said:

"It was an excellent launch of the 10th Otley Walking Festival, which as ever will be a wonderful celebration of walking and our town and surrounding countryside and it was fantastic that the new Six Dales Trail was officially launched.

"As a keen walker myself, I thought it would be a fitting way to help launch the festival and the 6 Dales Trail by doing the 38 miles in reverse, from Middleham back to Otley, to come and meet Janet Street Porter and the group of walkers who were setting off on Saturday morning.

"I had to speed up towards the end to get there in time, so ended up with a few blisters, but it was a great experience.

"It really is a beautiful walk and congratulations must go to author John Sparshatt, Otley Walkers are Welcome and everyone else involved, and I hope many more people will do the trail though perhaps not in one go!".
