Greg Mulholland MP used an opportunity yesterday during a Westminster Hall Debate on Regional Spatial Strategies to raise issues surrounding the development of 70 houses on land north of Holt Avenue in Adel, Leeds.
While Greg is pleased that the current Government has announced it will abolish RSS, he voiced the frustration of the Adel Association and the Leeds City Council that, in the meantime, RSS still provides a legal loophole that could allow this and other unsustainable developments to go ahead.
Greg asked for clarification regarding when RSS will be abolished and assurance that until then it will not be used to push through the erection of such developments.
Commenting Greg said:
"Local residents, the Adel Association, and the Leeds City Council have all opposed this development, so they were thrilled to learn about the Government's plans to abolish RSS, as was I.
"This Government has realised that overly ambitious RSS requirements put a real strain on communities such as Adel and has sought to address the problem.
"It is simply unacceptable that developments like the one near Holt Avenue may be able to progress through this legal loophole and residents are rightly very angry."
