Greg Shows Students From Prince Henry's Around Parliament Earlier This Year

In a letter to the Secretary of State for Education Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, has expressed concern over the announcement that Prince Henry's School in Otley has been affected by cuts to the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme.

Greg Commented:

"The Building Schools for the Future Programme had real problems and many people felt it was outdated and flawed and that the previous Government had cynically made promises on education spending that they couldn't honour, just to get elected.

"However, the work on Prince Henry's is essential and overdue, I have therefore written to the Secretary of State asking that he reconsiders the schools inclusion in the cuts."

The Impact of Cuts to the Building Schools for the Future Project in Leeds North West

I wanted to take this opportunity to write to you following your announcement of cuts to the previous government's Building Schools for the Future Programme (BSF).

I would like firstly to assure you that I do recognise the inherent flaws in the previous Government's outdated policy and the cynical manner in which I believe they promised far more through this programme than they could ever hope to realistically deliver.

With this I mind I would like to express my concerns over the inclusion of Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley in my constituency. The refurbishment of Prince Henry's, I can assure you is essential, the school has been overlooked by refurbishment programmes too often in the past and is now in desperate need of work with some of the school literally falling apart.

I would be grateful therefore if you would reassess the inclusion of Prince Henry's in the announced cuts and allocate the appropriate level of funds so that it can get the refurbishment work it so desperately needs.

Thank you for your attention on this matter and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Greg Mulholland

Member of Parliament for Leeds North West
