Greg Mulholland, Chair of the Save the Pub APPG, has tabled a motion in Parliament celebrating the upcoming British Pub Week.
British Pub Week, which kicks off on October 30th, has the backing of several trade organisations and is intended to persuade people to make use of and enjoy their local pub. The motion has cross party support.
Commenting Greg said:
"I am delighted that this week has been set out to recognise such a great British institution.
"Pubs provide a community haven where friends can gather to socialise and safely enjoy a drink. Given the current challenges facing pubs, it is more important than ever that we remember and celebrate their vital role in society.
"I hope that people will join in the festivities and events during the week to celebrate the pub-a true hallmark of British culture."
Commenting Neil Robertson of the British Institute of Innkeeping said:
"BII is supporting British Pub Week because it wholeheartedly supports the trade, and any initiative that encourages the public back into pubs can't be ignored.
"The week unites many different sectors of the trade and gets them working together - something which has never been done before."
Commenting Inez Ward of Justice for Licensees said:
"Pubs are not just somewhere that sell alcohol, they play a vital role in their respective communities and also in social cohesion; they play a beneficial role in the economy and in tourism; they give chefs, live entertainment, darts players and a myriad of other professions the platform for their careers or business.
"British Pub Week will be a celebration of all that is great about the British Pub. We are pleased that Greg and the Save the Pub Group are our official partners for this initiative-this is a group of MP's who truly understand this industry! We would urge all to encourage their MP to sign this EDM."
