Greg at the opening with Arthur Hardaker and pub manager Kay Hayes
Local MP Greg Mulholland, president of the Otley Pub Club, was pleased to attend the re-opening of the historic Bowling Green pub in Otley on Friday.
The pub, now run by JD Wetherspoon, was opened by Arthur Hardaker, an Otley resident and pub-goer who was born in the Bowling Green Hotel in the early 1930s when it was run by his grandfather.
Commenting Greg said:
"I am very pleased to see the re-opening of this pub, which has been a community staple in its post on the main road into Otley from Leeds.
"It was lovely to see Arthur opening the pub, a man who was born in the Bowling Green nearly 80 years ago and has enjoyed the pubs of Otley ever since.
"Wetherspoon has done well to retain the pub's original name and with the re-opening we as Otley residents feel that we are getting this bit of our town back. I am sure that the Bowling Green will enjoy a bright future here as a valued community establishment."
