Final Victory for Moorland Road and Occupation Lane Campaigners

August 9, 2010 12:01 PM
previous protest

Greg and local residents and campaigners had pushed hard for the change previously and staged a protest earlier this year

Following the announcement that Leeds City Council finally plans to reduce the speed limit on Moorland Road and Occupation Lane, local MP Greg Mulholland has written to residents of the streets welcoming the move.

Greg, who had helped lead the campaign to have the previous speed limit reduced has congratulated his fellow campaigners on their hard fought victory.

The campaign to have the speed limit reduced involved at one point Greg replacing the unrestricted speed limit signs in use at the time with special 30mph signs made by children living on the roads.

Commenting Greg said:

"I whole heartedly welcome this move to finally replace the unrestricted speed limit on Moorland Road with a far more sensible 30 mph limit.

"It was simply nonsensical to have an unrestricted speed limit on a residential street where kids were at risk.

"Now that progress has been made I hope residents will feel safer on the roads in question."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
