Local MP for Leeds North West, Greg Mulholland has praised the work of local lady, Irene Willis for all her hard work for the Royal British Region, following Saturday's Poppy Appeal concert at Yeadon Town Hall, where she was rewarded for her service to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Irene has organised concerts at Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley for over twenty years now, raising significant amounts of money for the Royal British Legions Poppy Appeal.
Saturday's concert at Yeadon Town Hall was particularly special. Celebrating the Royal British Legions 90th anniversary, there was a performance from the band of the Royal Airforce Regiment. The event was also attended by two Chelsea Pensioners.
Greg commented:
"I was delighted to be asked to present Irene with her badge and certificate, in recognition of all her hard work for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. She has raised a great deal of money for such a great cause and she deserves this award for all the hard work she has put in.
"I have been fortunate enough to attend a number of the concerts she has organised at Prince Henry's over the past few years, whilst being the MP for Otley, and they have been a great success. Saturday night's concert at Yeadon Town Hall was no exception. I hope the concert at Prince Henry's in November is as successful as Saturday's event in Yeadon"
Margaret Chapel, who nominated Irene for the award said:
"I felt it was so important that Irene was nominated for this award in recognition of all the extremely hard work she has put in over the last twenty years for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
"She has organised an event at Prince Henry's every year for over twenty years now and this weekend's event in Yeadon was in addition to that and was another great success. She has raised so much money for such a great cause."
