April 17, 2012 11:30 AM

Day 2 - Bob and Greg set off on the 600 mil bike rideMember of Parliament for Leeds North West, Greg Mulholland, has completed the first two days of the huge Jane Tomlinson 10th Anniversary Challenge, completing the Paris Marathon and the first leg of the bike ride from Paris to Lens.

Greg has joined Mike and Rebecca Tomlinson, along with a team including four time Ironman champion, Chrissie Wellington, in taking on an 8 days challenge, completing the Paris Marathon and a 6 day cycle route to London ahead of the London Marathon via Hull and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal's home turf of Yorkshire.

Greg completed the Paris marathon in 3 hours 35minutes, and has completed the first day of the 100 mile per day cycle from Paris to Lens. Today Greg hopes to complete the second day of cycling from Lens to Bruges.

It is 10 years since Jane Tomlinson, CBE, ran the London marathon for the first time, the first terminally ill breast cancer patient to complete it. With this April marking the 10th anniversary & the Tomlinson family & team, including Greg, have set themselves a truly 'marathon' endurance challenge.

Greg is raising money for The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, who help children's and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the globe and also for Kidz in Kampz, based in Holt Park in Leeds, who fund programs for children displaced by conflict in refugee camps on the Thai/ Burmese border and The Leeds Rugby Foundation, based at Headingley stadium, who promote community participation and work to transform young people's lives through the power of sport.

Greg is asking people to sponsor him as he attempts this mammoth challenge by going to justgiving http://www.justgiving.com/Greg-Mulholland-Jane-Tomlinson-Challenge or by text 70070 with the code 'GMJT70' followed by the amount. eg: GMJT70 £10 or via cheques, payable to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal to his office at Wainwright House, 12 Holt Park Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS16 7SR

Greg has been backed in the challenge by a number of local businesses: 2 View Properties, Hamara Healthy Living Centre and Evans Cycles, jet2.com and Lucozade.

Greg commented:

"I am very pleased to have got the first two days of the challenge out of the way, but there is clearly still a long way to go before we cross the final finish line in London on Sunday!

"I am very achy, but I am sure if we continue to work together as a team we can all pull together and make it to the finishing line and ensure all these fantastic causes receive as much support from donations as possible ".

"The challenge is eye wateringly gruelling and I keep thinking that I must be mad to take on this enormous challenge, but I just couldn't pass up this opportunity to attempt this amazing Challenge."

London Marathon - Sunday 22nd April

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was set up by a very determined Yorkshire woman to help children's and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the globe.

Before her death in 2007, Jane Tomlinson CBE raised £1.85 million for children's and cancer charities through a series of physical challenges including her Ride Across America. Jane knew her life was limited but wanted to create a vehicle which would allow others across communities the opportunity to raise money for good causes close to their own hearts and to share in the excitement and fulfilment that she had experienced through her own fundraising events.

Since the inaugural Leeds 10K in 2007, Run For All has continued to grow and now has three highly successful, well established 10K runs in Yorkshire. Last year also saw the launch of the first Swim and Walk For All events.

Launched back in 2002,the Jane Tomlinson Appeal to date has raised over £4million for charity and over the years the Appeal has supported a range of charities both local and nationally, helping to fund refurbishment projects and purchase vital medical equipment.

With 2012 marking the Appeal's 10th Anniversary we are hoping to mark these celebrations by reaching our fundraising target of £5million.

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
