Leeds North West Member of Parliament Greg Mulholland was delighted to officially open the new Holt Park Entrance last Friday.
Met by young designers from Cookridge Primary School along with local officials and residents, Mr Mulholland, who has supported the Holt Park Entrance plan since its inception two years ago, cut the ceremonial ribbon and declared the entrance officially open.
Mr Mulholland paid tribute to the children of Cookridge Primary School who designed three remarkable animal sculptures for the entrance as well as community artist Chris Campbell who was responsible for constructing the children's designs as well as designing the new Holt Park Entrance sign.
The Holt Park Entrance, which also has a splendid new Oak park bench, defined pathways and new litter bins, is now open for use by all.
Greg Mulholland MP commented:
"It is an honour to officially open the Holt Park Entrance today I would like to say a huge to the Holt Park Residents Association, Groundwork Leeds and West North West Homes for making all of this possible.
A huge amount of dedication has gone into this project over the last two years and the result of this real community effort is outstanding.
The year 6 pupils of Cookridge Primary School have now a lasting legacy of their hard work and creative skills which, one day, they will be able to show to their own children.
The Holt Park Entrance design by Chris Campbell is exceptional and everyone who has been involved in this project has done their community proud."
Alan Mann, Chair of Holt Park Residents Association, commented:
"All of the people who have been involved in this project from the start and throughout are incredibly proud of what they have achieved for Holt Park.
Today, which sees a vision finally realised and has brought a community together, is by no means the end of a project as we have plans to use this much improved place for many other future activities."
