Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, was delighted to greet the Olympic Torch as it arrived at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Sunday.
Mr Mulholland, along with his six-year-old daughter Isabel, met proud torchbearers Ian Tippen and Peter Howard as they were cheered on by thousands of spectators on the pitch of the world famous sporting stadium.
Army veteran, Ian Tippen ran through the Trueman Enclosure and then made his way through a guard of honour, made up of Leeds Metropolitan University students and young cricketers, before passing on the flame to 78-year-old former triathlon world champion Peter Howard.
Leaving the stadium, the torch made its way through the thousands of crowds, who lined the streets of Headingley to celebrate the momentous occasion, before making its way to Temple Newsam for a massive celebratory concert.
Greg Mulholland MP commented:
"This is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The atmosphere was electric and it was amazing to be part of a community that joined together to celebrate something that will be talked about for many years to come.
"As the Member of Parliament for the area, I am truly honoured to have been a part of this celebration and now look forward to cheering on Team GB during the Games."
