Jane Tomlinson Anniversary Challenge

finishWhen I signed up to take part in the Jane Tomlinson Appeal 10th Anniversary Challenge I knew that it would be gruelling, but it wasn't until the week before we set off that I really began to understand the commitment that we would need to complete it.

This mammoth 8 day challenge involved running the Paris Marathon ahead of a 6 day cycle route to London via Hull and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal's home turf of Yorkshire, then finishing off by running the London Marathon. 652 miles in 8 days!

10 years previously Jane Tomlinson CBE ran the London marathon for the first time, the first terminally ill breast cancer patient to complete it. Inspired by her example, a team of eight, including Jane's husband Mike and daughter Rebecca undertook this year's challenge. Jane's courage and determination helped us all to complete this extraordinarily testing challenge and raise many thousands of pounds for charity.

One of the other motivating factors was the support I have received from the hundreds of people who have made donations. I am enormously grateful for the generosity that they have shown.

The money that I raise will be split between the following charities and it is not yet to late to donate!

  • The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, who help children's and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the globe.
  • The Leeds Rugby Foundation, based at Headingley stadium, who promote community participation and work to transform young peoples' lives through the power of sport by fighting social inequality.
  • Kidz in Kampz, based in Holt Park in Leeds, who fund programs for children displaced by conflict in refugee camps on the Thai/ Burmese boarder

Please can I ask you to support me - and make my pain and discomfort worthwhile! There are 3 easy ways to do it:

  • Go to my Justgiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Greg-Mulholland-Jane-Tomlinson-Challenge
  • Text 70070 with the code 'GMJT70' followed by the amount. eg: GMJT70 £10
  • Send cheques payable to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal to My Holt Park Office at Wainwright House, 12 Holt Park Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS16 7SR or drop cash off at the office

All size of donations are very welcome so please give whatever you can to help these excellent charities.

Thanks so much for any support you can give,

Greg

"Are you going to join us then?!" Those were the few, seemingly innocuous words. Trouble is, they came from Mike Tomlinson. On Twitter. It was my fault, for tweeting Mike after I heard that policeman Bob Bowman, a trustee of the Leeds Rugby Foundation, was taking part in the Jane Tomlinson Appeal 10th Anniversary Challenge. This was to involve running the Paris Marathon, cycling from there to London, via Leeds (a distance of about 600 miles) then running the London marathon, without a day to recover. I laughed Mike's reply off. But a seed was sown. The damage was done. A week later I was having a pint (well a couple) with Mike and Siobhan, who works for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
