Holt Park trio set to take on London Marathon

April 16, 2012 12:39 PM

April 2012, With other Holt Park London Marathon entrants - Rowan Eastwood and Mark RobinsonSix Yorkshire charities will benefit from funds raised by three energetic people working at the Holt Park Centre who are running the London Marathon on 22 April. Rowan Eastwood from Older People's Action in the Locality (OPAL), Mark Robinson of the Holt Park Sports Centre and Greg Mulholland MP, whose constituency office is in the Centre, will be amongst the runners setting out from Greenwich Park to run 26 miles through the capital.

For Greg Mulholland it will be the last stage of the gruelling Jane Tomlinson 10th anniversary challenge of two marathons and a 600 mile bike ride in a week. As well as the funds raised for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Greg is donating to Holt Park based charity Kidz in Kampz and to the Leeds Rugby Foundation. He is a patron of both local charities.

Rowan is raising funds for OPAL where she works as a volunteer and a member of staff and Mark is focusing on young people with the money he raises divided between Phabkids and Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Knowing that they are raising money for these causes will help to spur them on through this gruelling challenge so please give generously:

Commenting, Greg Mulholland said:

"I know that this challenge will be gruelling but it will all be worth it to raise funds for the three fantastic Leeds charities I'm supporting. Each of them exists to help people who face far greater challenges in their daily lives."

Mark Robinson said:

"I have chosen these two charities simply because I never for one minute take for granted how lucky I am that my children are fit and well. I want to help those who are facing life's greatest challenges"

Rowan Eastwood said:

"Having been involved with OPAL for 6 years I know the real difference we make helping older adults overcome social isolation, plus mental and
physical challenges that can be part of growing older. The strength and determination older people show is inspiring me to complete my first marathon."
